Nokia’s new Android smartphones to be released in Q4 2016
Nokia’s First Android Smartphones Could Arrive By End Of 2016
Recently, we had reported that Nokia is planning to launch two Android Nougat smartphones before the end of this year. According to a new report, the Finnish company plans to launch several smartphones and tablets by the end of this year.
Nokia executive Mike Wang, president of the joint management team in China, has confirmed the news to local site ThePaper that three or four new Nokia-branded Android devices are set to be unveiled in the fourth quarter of 2016. These devices will be split between new smartphone and tablet launches. However, the devices may not hit the market until early next year. The upcoming products will be designed by the HMD Group, which comprises of ex-Nokia and ex-Microsoft employees.
For those unfamiliar, Nokia sold its handset business to Microsoft a couple of years ago, and recently Microsoft sold the feature phone business to Foxconn. It was also reported on Tuesday that HMD has hired 17 year Nokia veteran and ex-Rovio CEO Pekka Rantala as the chief marketing officer, whose job would be to promote the new handsets bearing the Nokia brand once they are released.
As mentioned in our previous article, Nokia is planning to launch two premium smartphones, which will be powered by Android 7.0 Nougat. The Nokia smartphones are reported to feature 5.2 and 5.5-inch Quad HD OLED displays, a Snapdragon 820 processor, a 22.6MP camera has also water and dust resistant metal designs. However, the company has not provided any details about the specifications of its upcoming smartphones and tablets, nor their targeted prices.
Once known as the king of smartphone and mobile business, the news of the upcoming smartphones has definitely created some interest in the consumer market. With the launch of the smartphones, Nokia would be looking to regain that top spot for the company again. However, whether or not the new smartphones will be able to make a mark in the market, only time will tell.
